“Press down to rise” is a phrase used in the yoga world and I heard it a lot over the course of 2020 when I was trying to find some Zen in this crazy world. Much like the idea that an arrow must first be pulled backwards in order to fly or a seed must first create roots before it can grow, which is why the arrow in this design goes down before it comes up.
This design is to remind us that no matter where we are, right now, we have it within ourselves to rise and flourish. So often we feel like we are stuck where we are – the wrong job, a bad relationship, a difficult time that we just can’t shake – and we wait for some external factor to come and rescue us. But how long do you wait? And what if that thing never comes?
I believe that we should be the hero in our own stories, and that doesn’t mean doing it all on our own; asking for help is truly one of the bravest things we can do, but it starts with us, with you. And as Gabrielle says in her epic pop ballad:
“Look at my life
Look at my heart
I have seen them fall apart
Now I’m ready to rise again
Just look at my hopes
Look at my dreams
I’m building bridges from these scenes
Now I’m ready to rise again”
